4 inmates bolt out of Medellin jail

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Four inmates have escaped from the Medellin District Jail Wednesday dawn.

The escapees, who are now subject of a manhunt operation, were identified as Alvic Arrabis Inot, of Barangay Pajo II, Daanbantayan; Joselito Abrao Pantaleon, of Barangay Lamintak Sur, Medellin; Kim Flores Invento, of Barangay Dayhagon, Medellin; and Rene Benaro, also of Medellin.

Senior Police Officer 1 Winston Isnani, desk officer of Medellin Police Station, said that the personnel of Medellin District Jail informed the police station about the incident.

BJMP personnel, however, refused to provide details how the inmates escaped.

The Medellin District Jail is located in Sitio Lutsa, Barangay Caputatan Sur. It is operated by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. The jail currently houses at least 300 prisoners from different towns of northern Cebu, except for Bogo, which has its own BJMP-run facility.

Meanwhile, an escapee was arrested by the members of Sogod Police Station during a checkpoint in Barangay Damolog.

Jonalon Ebale, 25, who is facing charges for possession and sale of illegal drugs, escaped from Sogod Police Station detention cell on July 10.

Senior Inspector Rico Emperwa, station chief, led his men in conducting the checkpoint past 11 a.m. on Tuesday. The police flagged down the motorcycle that Ebale was riding resulting in his capture.

Abale was able to escape four months ago after he tricked the policeman guarding him during that time. He asked to be brought to the hospital because he was allegedly having severe stomachache where he got the chance to escape. — (FREEMAN)
