Yayoy: Support still for LP despite governor’s endorsement for opponent

CEBU, Philippines - Despite not being endorsed by the Liberal Party, Provincial Board Member Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba said he is still committed to support the party’s national candidates, as well as the reelection bids of Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale.

Alcoseba, a member of the Liberal Party, is seeking for the mayoralty post of Carcar City. He will be running against incumbent Mayor Nicepura Apura of the Alayon Party, whom Davide and Magpale will be endorsing for the 2016 election.

“No hard feelings.  I am not insecure nga i-endorse si Nice (Apura)... because at the end of the day, it is the people who will choose the mayor of Carcar City,” Alcoseba told reporters.

The Alayon Party has tied up with the ruling Liberal Party for the 2016 elections.

Davide and Magpale went to Carcar City yesterday to formally endorse the Alayon bets in the first district, particularly in the towns of Minglanilla and Sibonga and the cities of Naga and Carcar.

Alcoseba said he spoke with Davide yesterday morning and assured the governor of his full and continued support to the Mar Roxas-Leni Robredo and Davide-Magpale tandems.

“I told him nga you have given me the CONA (certificate of nomination and acceptance) already as LP. That is the most important thing. At least makabalo ang mga tawo kinsa gyoy LP,” he said.

Candidates with no CONAs are considered independent.

Davide also issued a CONA to Talisay City Mayor Johnny de los Reyes whose reelection bid will be challenged by former congressman Eduardo “Eddiegul” Gullas of Alayon Party.

First district Representative Gerald Anthony “Samsam” Gullas, Eddiegul’s grandson, expressed his dismay over Davide’s decision to issue a CONA to Mayor De los Reyes.

Gullas earlier asked Davide not to give CONAs to the challengers of Alayon’s mayors.

However, Samsam clarified that he will still support Roxas and Robredo, as well
