CEBU, Philippines - One Cebu Party is reportedly considering former congresswoman Nerissa Soon-Ruiz as the running mate of its gubernatorial bet Winston Garcia.
But Ruiz said is yet to decide on the matter but will campaign for Garcia no matter her decision.
“Gitimbang-timbang pa gyud ni nako, but I definitely will campaign for Winston,” Ruiz told The Freeman.
Garcia said the final decision will be known tomorrow during the party’s general assembly where he is expected to announce his running mate.
If she will run, Ruiz will be challenging the re-election bid of incumbent Vice Governor Agnes Magpale.
Ruiz’s home city, Mandaue, has around 190,000 registered voters.
Ruiz is also reportedly on the list of candidates for councilor in Mandaue under the group of Councilor Emmarie “Lollipop” Ouano-Dizon who is running for mayor.
Dizon said Ruiz will remain on her list until the latter finally decides to run for another position.
Garcia said earlier he prefers to partner with a physician who can attend to the health programs while he will focus on infrastructure development of the province.
Ruiz, 59, is a doctor by profession.
Both Garcia and Ruiz served as Provincial Board members during the time of former governor Emilio “Lito” Osmeña.
After serving one term at the PB, Soon-Ruiz served as congresswoman in the sixth district from 1992 to 1998 and from 2001 to 2010. — (FREEMAN)
