CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Transportation Office will close to vehicle traffic a portion of Sanciangko Street tomorrow for the political gathering of the United Nationalist Alliance party.
Vice President Jejomar Binay is expected to grace the regional launching of UNA tomorrow at the Cebu Coliseum. The activity will be from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
CCTO Executive Director Rey Gealon said his office will implement the same traffic management plan it used when President Benigno Aquino III was at the same venue for the “gathering of friends” of the Liberal Party in August.
“CCTO has already laid out the traffic management plan for Friday’s UNA launching. We are confident that we can contain the volume of vehicles of the Vice President and his entourage in Sanciangko (Street) as well as manage traffic in the arterial roads from N. Bacalso to Leon Kilat Street to Colon Street,” Gealon said.
CCTO will implement traffic rerouting for vehicles passing Sanciangko Street, which will be closed from 6 a.m. to 12 noon. The CCTO will also close the entrance and exit driveways of the mall along Sanciangko Street at the same time.
“All vehicles passing along Sanciangko Street shall turn left or right to Leon Kilat Street then to their destination. All vehicles passing along Sanciangko Street shall turn left or right to Leon Kilat Street then to their destination,” read the CCTO traffic advisory.
Gealon said several traffic enforcers will be deployed to assist the motorists and commuters that will be affected in the traffic rerouting.
Gealon said slow-moving traffic would be the worst scenario that would happen tomorrow.
“This traffic management plan has already been proven and tested during the president’s visit and we have no reason to believe that it will cause congestion, maybe slow-moving traffic at worst. But that is already expected, especially when the number of vehicles increases and the width of the roads remain the same,” he said, adding that CCTO will manage the traffic flow tomorrow. — (FREEMAN)
