CEBU, Philippines – Each family affected by the fire that hit Sitio Cadahuan in Barangay Talamban last Friday will receive P3,000 from the city government.
At least 82 families or 357 individuals were affected by the fire that razed 40 houses.
The Department of Social Welfare and Services will validate the data before handing the assistance out.
Talamban Barangay Captain Dario Arcilla said the barangay has already come up with a resolution allocating P150,000 to fund the materials to reconstruct the houses of the fire victims.
The affected were sheltered temporarily at the barangay’s gym and transferred subsequently to the nearby Talamban Elementary School. DSWS Chief Dr. Ester Concha said at least 15 classrooms were provided as temporary shelter.
“It is more comfortable at the school. More secured and they will have their own privacy,” Concha said.
The city’s Quick Response Team also coordinated with the City Health Department for the latter to conduct the low volume misting at the school, as well as at the area hit by the fire owing to reports of dengue cases there.
As with other area hit by fire, the city will re-block Sitio Cadahuan.
Mayor Michael Rama said re-blocking will be implemented if there will be no complication or technicalities in the land area.
“We already have the template (of the area.) I have visited the area where the fire occurred and visited them (affected families) at the gym. The situation is now taken care of and handled by DSWS and the Quick Response Team,” Rama said.
DWUP Chief Atty. Collin Rosell said, “Before taking any action for the site development plan to rehabilitate the condition of the locality, we need to first, collect data of the property and second, the nature and status of occupation of the residents.” —/JMO (FREEMAN)
