CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Transportation Office warned motorists and commuters that heavy traffic will be experienced by those traversing Salinas Drive, Pope John Paul II Avenue, and Archbishop Reyes Avenue starting this afternoon.
This is because two big events will be held at the vicinity of the said roads from afternoon to midnight.
CCTO Operations Chief Jonathan Tumulak said slow traffic movement would start from 5 p.m. and beyond.
“Naa man gyod tay heavy traffic diha nga area bisan og walay event, so deploy lang mi og additional 50 to 60 traffic enforcers para mo-man og manual traffic sa area,” he said.
The events are the Octoberfest 2015 at the grounds of I.T. Park and the concert of Don Moen at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.
“Manawagan mi sa mga commuters, kadtong mga nagdala og sakyanan, kun duna moy mga biyahe nga mo-agi og I.T. Park, mas maayong mag-reroute mo sa inyong kaugalingon. Mas maayong mo-transfer og laing location. Mas maayong molikay sa I.T. park tungod sa duha ka events,” he said.
“Nag-expect mi og heavy traffic ugma gawas nga Friday, tungod pod sa kalihokan diha,” he added. CCTO would not be closing roads or changing public utility jeepney routes just because of the two events.
CCTO Executive Director Rey Gealon said his office will just assist the traffic group of I.T Park for the event.
I.T Park property manager Lydito Peliño II said the management has prepared security and traffic plans for the Octoberfest, as this is the first time it would be held in the area.
He said they would also deploy additional security personnel aside from the police officers requested by the organizer.
Dewndie Romey, one of the Octoberfest organizers, said they are expecting around 4,000 people to attend the event with its P100 entrance fee.
He said the gate will be open starting 5 p.m. and the non-stop party will end at 2 a.m. the next day. (FREEMAN)
