Pa faces child abuse raps for maltreating 12-year-old daughter

CEBU, Philippines - A 31-year-old man is now facing child abuse charges before the court for allegedly maltreating his 12-year-old daughter recently at their house in Sitio Plastikan, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City.

Cebu City Prosecutor Russell Busico held the father for trial for violation of Section 10 (a) of Republic Act 7610, otherwise known as the Anti-Child Abuse Law.

“Accused, with deliberate intent, did then and there maltreat and use physical violence upon her daughter by smacking her nape, throwing her a wooden panel used in playing sungka, hitting her right thigh, throwing her a coin slot and throwing her a slipper, hitting her waist thus committing acts of child abuse,” Busico ruled.

The fiscal recommended P80,000 bail for the accused.

The FREEMAN is withholding the names of the parties involved owing to the nature of the case.

The victim, in her sworn statement, alleged her father mauled her on September 21 this year, at around 3:30 p.m., when she refused to run an errand.

“My father got angry to me when I refused to run an errand from him because I was tending my sibling. He smack my nape, threw me a wooden panel used in playing sungka that hit my right thigh,” she stated.

The girl added that her father threw a coin slot and a slipper to her.

A 38-year-old female relative corroborated the statement of the victim. She alleged that the victim allegedly really suffers from her father’s physical abuses.

Together with the victim, she went to the barangay hall and had the incident reported, leading to the father’s arrest.

In an inquest proceeding before the Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor, the suspect opted not to undergo preliminary investigation to answer the allegations filed against him. He instead manifested to face the charges in court. — (FREEMAN)
