CEBU, Philippines- The Cebu City Police Office is mourning for the death of the chief investigator of the Theft and Robbery Section over the weekend because of cardiac arrest.
Police Officer 3 Jodan Batucan, 38, died at around 10 p.m. Sunday at the Cebu Doctor’s Hospital, leaving his wife and four children.
Batucan’s colleagues said he was still playing basketball at the CCPO Sunday afternoon. He went home after the game because he was no longer feeling well. Batucan reportedly requested his wife to cook food for him. However, he was found by one of his children at 8:30 p.m. lying on the floor already unresponsive.
He was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead hours later.
TRS chief David Señor said Batucan was really a great loss to their office since he was really doing great in his job as chief investigator.
“Dako gyud og epekto ang iyang pagkawala kay kato siya, kugihan kaayo unya maayo moimbistigar,” said Señor.
Señor said the TRS has not filed a single case that was dismissed by the prosecutor with Batucan as chief investigator because he would make sure that they have the complete evidence.
“Maayo gyud na siya. Aside sa kakugi, makamao gyud siya ba,” Señor recalled of Batucan.
He, however, assured that a contingency measure has already been done to ensure that operation of TRS is not affected.
“By team lang usa ang investigation then mangita pa ta kung kinsa ang atong ipuli,” said Señor.
Acting CCPO director Senior Superintendent Marciano Batiancela has already instructed to process the claims of Batucan to assist his family. Batucan’s wake is now at the CCPO chapel.
Before becoming a policeman, Batucan has worked at the circulation department of The Freeman. (FREEMAN)
