DWUP chief eyes City Council seat
CEBU, Philippines - The head of the Department for the Welfare of the Urban Poor in Cebu City is considering throwing his hat into the political arena next year.
Lawyer Collin Rosell, who has been DWUP since 2011, admitted that he is planning to seek a post in the City Council.
“I’m still considering it as an option as legally and qualification wise there is no impediment but will focus first on the critical job at hand with urgency,” he told THE FREEMAN.
Rosell said that he will surely resign from his post should he pursue his plan in politics.
“For sure, kon modagan ko, dapat ko mo-resign gyod sa akong position,” he said.
At least two city officials have already resigned last week after they made known their plan to run for councilor.
Out of delicadeza, executive assistant to the mayor lawyer Jose Daluz III has tendered his resignation effective October 1. Cebu City Environment and Natural Resources chief Randy Navarro, on the other hand, applied for an early retirement which will also take effect on the same date.
Both Daluz and Navarro are running for councilor but under different political party. Daluz will be running with the team of the incumbent mayor, while Navarro will join Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan.
Rosell said he has not decided yet which political party to join if he decides to run.
“Let’s not talk about Team Rama or what. Options lang gyod na,” he said.
He said he will announce in due time, definitely before the filing of candidacy in October.
The Commission on Elections has scheduled the filing of candidacy for October 12 to October 16 this year. (FREEMAN)
