Husband gives way; wife, lover released

Grace Melanie L. Lacamiento - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A woman and her alleged lover, who is the elder brother of her husband, were released from detention after the husband decided not to pursue filing adultery case and even gave way for the two.

Police Officer 3 Irish Buena, chief of Dumanjug Police Station’s Women and Children’s Protection Desk, said the husband opted to withdraw in lodging a complaint against his wife and his elder brother, but cited no exact reason.

Buena said they were even surprised when the husband changed his mind since he showed eagerness to file a case against the two last Friday.

The husband, who was in tears as Buena described, returned to their station last Sunday and signed an affidavit of desistance.

According to Buena, the husband gave up and let the two live on their own. He even allegedly advised his wife to take care of his older brother.

“Pakuyogon nalang sa bana ang duha. Pasagdahan na lang daw niya. Mipadayon ra pud ang duha,” said Buena.

The wife and her lover were released from jail Monday afternoon after serving the 36-hour reglementary period.

It was Friday dawn when the husband sought the help of the police after learning that his wife and his elder brother have eloped and went to Moalboal town.

The two were apprehended by Dumanjug police inside a house owned by the woman’s relative in Barangay Lombo, Moalboal.

Buena said the couple got married in January this year and lived in the house of the husband’s parents where his elder brother, who is a bachelor, was also staying at. The couple did not have a child.

The police officer further said there have been rumors that the woman and the elder brother were having an affair.

The woman has denied having a relationship with her husband’s brother. However, the elder brother admitted to the police, saying he was tempted. — (FREEMAN)
