CEBU, Philippines - Senior citizens and the persons with disabilities in Cebu City will get their financial assistance from the city government this week.
Close to 60,000 senior citizens will receive P2,000 each tomorrow, September 3, as fourth tranche for the P12,000 annual aid.
The following day, Thursday, 10,071 PWDs will get P1,000 as third tranche of the P5,000 annual aid.
City Treasurer Diwa Cuevas told reporters the city has prepared more than P130 million for this month’s distribution, P120 million of which will go to senior citizens.
Senior citizens received only P10,000 of the P12,000 annual cash aid last year. The remaining P2,000 was distributed only in January 2015. On the same date, the qualified senior citizens firstly received P1,000 from the 2015 financial assistance.
In April, another P2,000 was given for the second distribution.
Three months after, the senior citizens received another P2,000 for the third tranche of the P12,000 annual cash aid.
The senior citizens have received P7,000, so far.
The city government will announce later the next schedule of distribution for the remaining P5,000.
For 2015, the city government allocated P720 million for senior citizens.
The monthly distribution of cash aid for the elderly is in line with City Ordinance 2417 or the Annual Budget Ordinance. — (FREEMAN)
