Dad, son hurt after trying to stop fighting co-workers

CEBU, Philippines- A father and son landed in a hospital after they were allegedly mauled and shot when they intervened in a fight between their co-workers at Andres Abellana Street, Barangay Guadalupe, Cebu City Saturday night.

Bertuldo Anito, 50, and his son, Wilbert, 30, are both construction workers staying at a construction site in the area.

Police Officer 1 Salvador Cabasa of the Homicide Section of the Cebu City Police Office said that prior to the incident, a certain Melvin Lañojan and Quilmar Dela Cruz were having a drinking spree with their co-workers.

But while they were having fun, Lañojan had an argument with Dela Cruz. This led to the former and his cohorts mauling Dela Cruz.

Bertuldo, who saw the commotion, tried to intervene to pacify them. However, Cabasa said Bertuldo was instead mauled by Lañojan and his cohorts.

Wilbert, who saw that his father was being beaten up, also tried to defend his father. However, Cabasa said one of Lañojan’s cohorts shot Wilbert with the use of a handgun that hit the latter’s shoulder and stomach.

After the shooting, the group immediately fled away together with Lañojan while Bertuldo, who sustained an injury on his head, and his son, Wilbert, were rushed to Vicente Memorial Medical Center for immediate treatment.

The policemen are still conducting a follow-up operation for the possible arrest of the suspects.  (FREEMAN)
