CEBU, Philippines - Former Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board member and now Negros Oriental Representative Manuel Iway is asking Cebuanos to support his petition for P1 reduction in jeepney and taxi fare.
This as LTFRB has scheduled a public hearing on the petition for September 22, at 9 a.m., at LTFRB Central Office.
“I am asking the Cebuanos to support me on this by simply writing to LTFRB expressing your support,” said Iway, also a lawyer.
Iway is asking for P1 fare reduction for public utility jeepneys’ minimum fare for the first five kilometers.
He also asked for another fare reduction of P.25 in the succeeding kilometer, amidst the continued reduction in fuel prices.
To date, the minimum fare in Central Visayas is P7 for the first five kilometers and P.90 in the succeeding kilometer.
If approved, the minimum fare in the region would already be P6 with and P.65 for the succeeding kilometer.
“Pero inig panahon sa public hearing, mas moubos pa g’yud ang presyo sa diesel ug gasolina, then I will further ask for a much higher fare rollback,” said Iway.
Iway is also seeking P1 fare reduction for taxis for the succeeding 300 meters or from P3.50 to P2.50.
He also asked for the calibration of the P40 current flagdown rate in taxis to P30 to avoid confusion and altercation between the driver and the passenger. —(FREEMAN)
