Man arrested for allegedly raping girl

CEBU, Philippines- A 58-year-old widower was arrested by the police last Sunday morning after a 17-year-old girl accused him of rape.

Senior Police Officer 1 Beethoven Rocamora, chief investigator of the Samboan Police Station, said they arrested the man during hot pursuit at past 9 a.m. It was reportedly the girl’s father who reported the alleged incident.

Rocamora said the father sought the help of the police after his daughter told him the suspect raped her last Saturday afternoon. The girl is reportedly mentally disturbed.

Based on the girl’s account, she went to a secluded area where residents fetch water and the suspect was already there. He reportedly called her to approach him, told her that he loved her, and allegedly raped her.

Rocamora said the man admitted liking the girl, which was why he gave in to the temptation.

“Niangkon siya (nga gilugos niya), giganahan siya dala sa kaibog,” Rocamora said.

The girl was brought to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center for examination.

Rocamora said the suspect is facing charges for child abuse in relation to rape.

A formal complaint will be filed against him once results of the medical examination are released. He is detained at the Samboan Police Station.  (FREEMAN)
