Three cops face probe; two relieved from post

CEBU, Philippines - Three policemen from Carcar City Police Station were subjected to pre-charge evaluation as one of them and another police officer were relieved from their post pending investigation.

Police Officer 3 Nelson Mendaros, Police Officer 1 Chuck Dayuja, and Police Officer 1 Nilson Alico are now under investigation for alleged negligence of duty when they failed to respond to an alarm last month involving Senior Police Officer 2 Jose Repompo and his family despite being just reportedly in the vicinity.

According to the investigation, last July 12, Repompo and his family were walking in Barangay Poblacion, Carcar City when two men, Sugar Rey Naveo and Terejen Bacon, 18, reportedly confronted them. Naveo then allegedly pointed a handgun at Repompo.

Repompo managed to get the gun from Naveo, who then fled together with Bacon.

Two weeks after, two persons went to Carcar City Police Station and complained about Mendaros, Dayuja, and Alico who were reportedly just around the area when the commotion happened.

According to their affidavits, should the alert team responded immediately, Naveo and Bacon could have not escaped.

Chief Inspector Teodulfo Manatad III, the station chief, recommended a pre-charge evaluation to be conducted against Mendaros, Dayuja, and Alico for simple negligence of duty.

Senior Superintendent Noel Gillamac, the director of the Cebu City Police Office, said they received information that prior to that day, the three policemen were seen having a drinking session with Naveo, an alleged illegal drug personality in Carcar.

“We will conduct investigation how true this is,” said Gillamac.

Gillamac also ordered the relief of Repompo and Mendaros following reports that the two are in conflict.

“I directed the admin to issue order that they (Repompo and Mendaros) will be assigned at the headquarters. Initial reports sa chief is naa’y rivalry si Repompo ug Mendaros,” he said.

Carcar City Mayor Nice Apura told reporters yesterday that he also received a report about Mendaros, Dayuja, and Alico, having a drinking session with an identified drug personality in their area.

Apura said since Dayuja and Alico were always with Mendaros, the two got unintentionally involved in the latter’s alleged misbehavior.

The mayor further said he wants to transfer Mendaros to another station after receiving reports that the police officer is affiliated with an illegal drug personality in his city.

Starting last Monday, Mendaros and Repompo were assigned at the CPPO holding unit while investigation is still ongoing. — (FREEMAN)
