2 men killed in separate shootings

CEBU, Philippines - Two men were killed in separate shooting incidents in Cebu City and Cebu province on Thursday involving motorcycle-riding assailants.

In Barangay Sambag 2, Cebu City, two motorcycle-riding men gunned down Felecisimo Jubay alias “Filipa”.

Jubay, who was in his late 40’s and a resident of Ibabao, Cordova, Cebu, was allegedly walking along the road towards the interior portion of B. Rodriguez Extension at around 11:30 p.m. when the assailants showed up, said Police Officer 1 Reoful Adalim of Homicide Section.

Adalim said the backrider alighted from the motorcycle, approached Jubay, and shot him se-veral times to the head.The victim sustained gunshot wounds on his forehead, chin, and neck.

The assailants sped off to an unknown direction while the victim was brought to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

LILOAN

Meanwhile, in Barangay Poblacion, Liloan, Cebu, a basketball coach was also shot dead by two motorcycle-riding men on Thursday night.

Ronie Marikit alias “Maca”, 39, was reportedly heading home from a basketball match when the shooting happened at around 9 p.m.

Police Officer 3 Jason Gayo of Liloan Police Station said prior to the incident, Marikit was onboard a Mitsubishi Adventure together with basketball players headed for home.

According to the players, they have already noticed the two motorcycle-riding men wearing hood jackets and helmets who seemed to be tailing them.

At past 9 p.m., Marikit was dropped at Sitio Banagbanag where he lives. Marikit, who was sitting at the back of the car, was about to open the back door when suddenly, the motorcycle went near them and shot the victim once.

The assailants sped off to the national highway while Marikit was rushed to Liloan Medical. However, he died on the way there.
