CEBU, Philippines - A man was arrested and detained after he stole spoons inside a fastfood chain along Osmeña Boulevard, Cebu City yesterday morning.
Edwin Dela Rosa, 37, was caught with seven stainless spoons in his pocket which he stealthily took at Jollibee Restaurant, beside Gaisano Metro Colon.
Restaurant guard Joel Menares arrested Dela Rosa, who was believed to be under the influence of illegal drugs.
The suspect reportedly went inside the fast-food chain at 7:30 a.m. yesterday and asked permission to drink water and use the comfort room, said Senior Police Officer 1 Aaron Pescadero of Waterfront Police Station.
Once inside, Dela Rosa allegedly went near the spoon and fork holder. Apparently checking that no one was watching, he took seven spoons and placed them inside his pocket.
Monares, who saw Dela Rosa, immediately reprimanded him.
When he searched Dela Rosa’s pocket, he found the seven spoons inside, prompting him to arrest the suspect and turn him over to the police.
The suspect, in an interview, admitted stealing the spoons, saying he wanted to bring the items home since his child threw their own spoons to the canal.
He said he had no intention to sell the spoons.
“Para ra man gud ‘na sa balay. Dili man na nako ibaligya,” he said.
Pescadero said a representative of the company went to their police station and told them they will not pursue in filing charges against Dela Rosa. The suspect was then later released. (FREEMAN)
