3 cops face probe
CEBU, Philippines - Three policemen are facing pre-charge evaluation after a deranged man broke into the provincial police headquarters to steal beverage from the “honesty store” inside the camp.
Inspector Windell Abellana, SPO1 Sean delos Reyes, and PO2 Glendale Cabañero may be charged with neglect of duty after the pre-charge evaluation.
A mentally deranged person identified as Christopher Chan, 20, breached the camp security and managed to sneak into the “Noy Honesto Coffee Shop” at the lobby of the police headquarters on July 18.
Chan destroyed the refrigerator of the “honesty store” and stole a bottle of iced tea, a can of mango juice, and one liter of soft drink.
Cebu Provincial Police Office director Senior Supt. Noel Gillamac said he discovered the burglary early morning on July 19. The suspect was immediately arrested but was also released for humanitarian reason.
“Arrested to (Chan), gibuhian lang nato for humanitarian consideration, gamay ra may nakuha… nag-snacks to, gigutom to,” Gillamac said.
However, Gillamac said he will not be as considerate to the officer of the day and to the two guards.
“The OD and the two guards atong ipa-investigate…what matters to me is that there is a breach of security nga gibuhat sa atong mga tawo,” he said.
Gillamac has directed the Provincial Investigation and Detective Management Branch to investigate how Chan managed to get inside the headquarters without being noticed.
“Well as a deterrent kinahanglan nga ma-administratively charged gyud ning mga polisa, that is accountability, they are responsible for the whole camp,” he stressed.
The concerned police officers will be directed to explain in writing why no administrative sanctions will be meted upon them for neglect of duty. If found guilty, the three policemen could face 30 days suspension. — (FREEMAN)
