CEBU, Philippines- Due to questions on his accomplishments as consultant of the Department of Public Services, the Cebu City Council has deferred the renewal of contract of former councilor Edwin Jagmoc.
Councilor Margarita Osmeña questioned the accomplishment report submitted by Jagmoc.
“His accomplishment report includes attending holy mass and inaugural sessions, participating on walk from Immaculada to Talamban, ground breaking events, inauguration at a barangay hall and attending flag raising ceremony,” Osmeña said.
She said this does not correspond to his job description as DPS consultant.
“I have nothing against his consultancy but I find that his accomplishment does not coincide with his being a consultant of DPS,” Osmeña added.
City Councilor Lea Japson, who authored the resolution endorsing Jagmoc’s renewal of contract, withdrew her resolution after hearing the comments of Osmeña.
“Maybe we will ask him (Jagmoc) to appear before this council to shed light on the matter,” Japson said.
The City Council also asked Jagmoc to explain in writing within one month why would the city government renew his contract.
The Bids and Awards Committee has issued a resolution recommending to Mayor Michael Rama to award the consultancy contract to Jagmoc for the period of six months starting January 1 to June 30.
Rama has issued a Notice of Award to Jagmoc as consultant of DPS.
In an interview, Jagmoc said he was not aware of the reason why his renewal of contract was deferred because he was not around during the regular session.
He explained why he included attending flag raising among his accomplishments.
“Gi-apil nako ang flag raising, though dili siya part sa akong trabaho, kay as a Filipino citizen I would like to show that it is part of my duty in attending the event. Gusto nakong i-emphasize nga obligasyon nato nga mosaludo sa flag raising,” he said. (FREEMAN)
