Former cop’s slay caught on CCTV

CEBU, Philippines - Police authorities already have the description of the assailants who shot a former policeman dead last Wednesday morning in Tres de Abril Street, Barangay Labangon, Cebu City.

The investigators of the incident got hold of footages from closed-circuit television cameras from two nearby business establishments.

The footages captured the shooting incident leading to the description of the two men who killed Roy Nudalo Tolentino, 41.

Police Superintendent Romeo Santander, chief of Cebu Intelligence Branch, said they hired an information technology  specialist to work on enhancing the footages.

“Gipa-enhance na namo ang footages. Ipa-high-definition for clearer description sa mga perpetrators,” said Santander.

Santander said they have also talked with Kenneth Jone Homeres who was injured after a bullet tore through his chest as he passed by the area during the shooting.

Homeres gave them some descriptions on the assailants.

The first footage they got yesterday morning was the back view while the other one that they got in the afternoon was the front view of the assailants tailing the victim.

The perpetrators weren’t wearing any helmet, thus there was no need for cartographic sketches.

Santander added that based from what they saw from the footages, he cannot say that the assailants were professionals in doing the crime, although the execution was well made.

Santander said he has already talked with the family of the victim and they said that the reported Absence Without Official Leave of Tolentino was because of depression over his wife’s death.

“According to them, sukad atong namatay iyang asawa, wala na siya nitrabaho. Sige na pud og inom,” Santander added.

Santander said they are already looking into two motives into the killing which he refused to disclose.

Tolentino became a policeman in 1996 and served in the cities of Mandaue and Cebu.

In November 2012, Tolentino was assigned to the Cebu City Police Office Mobile Patrol Group, but he stopped reporting for work in July 2013 and was dropped from the rolls for going AWOL April last year.

Tolentino reportedly was always nowhere to be found whenever the CCPO conducted random drug testing.  (FREEMAN)
