Cop’s alleged drunk son shot at

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Allegedly drunk after celebrating Manny Pacquiao’s victory, a policeman’s son was shot and hit by an unidentified man Sunday night in B. Aranas Extension, Barangay Duljo-Fatima, Cebu City.

The victim was identified as Aldus Yangson Quevedo, 31 years old, single, and a resident of the place. He is the son of Senior Insp. Pedro Quevedo assigned in the Operations Branch of the Cebu City Police Office.

Ariel Sombilon, 27, told police that he was accompanied by the victim to the house of his aunt where he would sleep that night after a drinking session past 10 p.m.

Upon arrival at the house, they saw two men standing few meters away from them acting “very suspicious” which prompted the drunken victim to approach and confront.

While the victim was scrutinizing one of the men, another who acted as backup appeared from behind and shot the victim hitting him on his ear before fleeing immediately.

Sombilon rushed the victim to the Cebu City Medical Center where he was later treated as out-patient.

PO2 Edario Manatad of the CCPO-Homicide Section said they are still looking for the assailants.

Quevedo said that the suspects were probably targeting Sombilon but his son was the one shot at thinking he was Sombilon’s ally. A personal grudge was allegedly being harbored by two families in their place of which Sombilon was one of them, he said.

The victim could not name his assailants but said he can identify them if he sees them. The policeman said his son went out from their house after watching Pacquiao’s match with Joshua Clottey to drink with their neighbors.

Meanwhile, two police officers who were gone for months for advancement course are back to their posts effective yesterday.

CCPO Director Patrocinio Comendador identified the police officers as Senior Inspectors Renero Agustin and Gilberto Abellar.

Agustin is back as chief of the Carbon Police Station while Abellar of the Pardo Police Station. While both were away, Sr. Insps. Pablito Sarno and Ciriaco Cortuna served as the officers-in-charge, respectively. — Niña G. Sumacot/MEEV   (FREEMAN NEWS)
