CEBU, Philippines — A six-year old boy died after he was hit by a truck while crossing a national road in Barangay Proper Poog, Toledo City Friday night.
The victim was identified as Gambert Rosalita, a kindergarten student and a resident of the same place.
As per initial investigation, victim’s mother Angelita Rosalita told her son to bring the softdrinks and cigarettes she bought for the victim’s grandparents.
Since his grandparents’ house was situated across theirs, Gambert crossed the street, not noticing the speeding elf truck coming his way.
The truck, which was carrying iron rods, hit the boy, who was thrown a few meters away.
The boy was rushed to Carmen Copper Corporation Hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Truck driver Ramon Villaro, 29, was travelling from Cebu City to Toledo City proper when the incident happened.
Villaro voluntarily surrendered himself at Das Police Community Precinct 1 of Toledo City Police Station where he was detained pending the filing of appropriate charges against him.
Gambert’s mother said she and her son had planned to go to the mall to buy him new clothes since it is almost the end of the school year and Gambert is an honor student.
The body was subjected to an autopsy examination. — Ma. Fatima R. Secuya and Raymond Abarcas of Banat News/NSA (FREEMAN)
