CEBU, Philippines - Who could have thought that a selfless act of lending a hand could lead to one’s untimely demise?
Cesar Fantonial, a 60-year-old farmer, was about to go home after securing his cow to a tree when he saw Rosarie Sarsa, 33 and Alicia Padin fighting.
He tried to break their fight but he ended up dead after receiving a kick from one of the women.
Police Officer 2 Madison Singco, investigator, said that the victim just happened to pass by in Sitio Lagtang, Barangay Ocaña, Carcar City past 4 p.m. Wednesday.
“Naa man na siyay hayopan, nagtugway na sa iyang hayopan nakit-an niya ang duha nga nagnilarotay (og buhok),” Singco said.
Fantonial, being a member of the Lupong Tagapa-mayapa og Barangay Ocaña, tried to break Sarsa and Padin’s intense fight.
But as he tried to grab the women, Sarsa kicked him which made him fall on the ground.
The fighting stopped when they noticed that Fantonial was down on the ground and was no longer moving.
Their neighbors who saw the fight helped Fantonial and brought him to the Cebu Provincial Hospital in Carcar City where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Singco said the victim might have lost his balance when he received the kick and fell hard while doctors reportedly believe that he suffered a heart attack.
“Heart attack man siguro to sir, niingon ang doctor sa Carcar hospital pagpatid na-outbalance nisaka ang dugo. Kay kung ang ulo napantok inanay na nga mamatay,” he added.
“Imbis nitabang siya para mahunong ang away, siya na man hinuon ang namatay… Kalit, wa mag-expect nga mao na diay toy kataposan gahapon,” Singco said.
Sarsa and Fantonial are reportedly close friends and are neighbors, said Christopher Enad, a non-uniformed personnel at the Carcar City Police Station.
Enad said that he was able to speak with Sarsa and she told him that she could not believe that she delivered the fatal kick.
Sarsa alleged that the confrontation between her and Padin became so intense and is not even sure that she even kicked the victim.
Sarsa was detained after witnesses told the investigators that she indeed kicked the victim.
The suspect will be charged of homicide today, said Singco. (FREEMAN)
