CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City Prosecutor’s Office has indicted a suspected drug pusher in Barangay Labangon for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act after he was arrested selling drugs to the police during a buy-bust operation last week.
State prosecutor Ruso Zaragosa found probable cause to elevate the charges to court against Jonathan Cañada for violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 and recommended no bail for his temporary liberty.
Cañada waived his right to avail of a preliminary investigation and opted to answer the charges directly in court.
He was arrested at Tres De Abril, Labangon on February 27, 2015 by the operatives of the Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Special Operations Group-7.
Senior Inspector Joey Bicoy, team leader of RAIDSOTG-7, said they placed Cañada under surveillance for one week after receiving information about his illegal activities. Cañada is allegedly getting his drug supply from “Munti Boys.” Munti is the street lingo for New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.
Bicoy said they arranged a transaction with Cañada through cellular phone and ordered 100 grams of shabu. The police seized about 600 grams of shabu from Cañada with an estimated value of P7,080,000.
Meanwhile, assistant city prosecutor Jennifer Karen Alo-Leyson also held Emelyn Dingal, 49, for trial for allegedly selling shabu. Lyson also did not recommend bail for her temporary liberty.
Dingal was arrested by the operatives of the City Intelligence Branch and the elements of Mambaling Police Station on March 1 at around 1 a.m. The police also seized over P1 million worth of illegal drugs from her possession. — (FREEMAN)
