CEBU, Philippines - Feeling the rising temperature? Authorities say the dry season has not arrived yet.
Oscar Tabada, director for the Visayas of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, said the dry season will not start until March.
“Wala pa ta nag ting-init kay naa pa may hanging Amihan pero nagkahinay na ni. As soon as mawala na ni, diha na magsugod ang dry season,” Tabada explained.
The highest temperature measured in February was 31 degrees Celsius and Tabada said this will continue to rise in the coming months.
Per heat index, a temperature of 32 degrees Celsius is felt at 33 to 34 degrees, Tabada said.
Temperature rise is attributed to the mild El Niño phenomenon, which had been forecast to be experienced this year.
“March is the month when we experience below average amount of rain. Plus the increase in temperature. But come April, this will improve,” the state weather bureau chief said.
