CEBU, Philippines - The family of the man who died after being hit by a Capitol-owned vehicle in Bogo City five months ago is still asking for what the provincial government had promised to them-a job for the eldest daughter.
The widow, Marites Mirambel, said her 20-year-old eldest daughter, Leslie, a graduate of a two-year computer course, remains unemployed and is hoping that the provincial government would fulfill its promise.
Marites said they were told by the Capitol staff that there was no vacant position available yet for Leslie in the provincial government.
Last September 2014, the Capitol vehicle issued to former chief security Loy Anthony Madrigal hit Marites and Felix Mirambel while on board a motorcycle at Barangay Don Pedro, Bogo City.
Felix, the husband and the breadwinner, died the next day after the incident while Marites suffered a leg fracture. Marites said nobody from the family is supporting their daily needs because she cannot work yet since she is still recuperating from her fractured left leg.
The bereaved family is also asking Madrigal to take the responsibility of extending financial assistance to them even though the province shouldered all the hospital expenses and the burial of her husband.
On Monday, Marites and Leslie met with Medellin Mayor Ricky Ramirez to seek assistance.
“Gipaadto mi sa opisina ni mayor aron matabangan matagaan og abogado kay naa man daw siya mga kaila. Di sab mahimo nga mag-reklamo-reklamo mi unya way abogado,” Marites told The FREEMAN over the phone.
Governor Hilario Davide III said the information he received was Leslie is still not at the legal age and cannot be hired yet. He added that the province can also offer scholarship grant for Leslie so she can pursue her study and finish a bachelor’s degree.— (FREEMAN)
