CEBU, Philippines - The city government of Bogo is trying its best to develop and improve the roll-on/roll-off port in Polambato.
Mayor Celestino “Junie” Martinez Jr. said they cannot rely on the Cebu Ports Authority because it is only focusing the ports in Cebu City.
“Ang CPA is too focus on their development sa Cebu City of which nga ako’ng tan-aw nga maayo unta og ila palapdanan ang ilang pagtan-aw because right now sa Bogo nga kami na nag-manage daghan na RORO,” Martinez said.
He said two weeks ago two LCT vessels docked at Polambato Port to serve the route from Bogo City to Iloilo City daily.
This is in addition to the existing daily routes to and from Kawayan, Masbate and Palompon, Leyte. Another route for Bacolod City will be added soon.
Shipping lines and logistic companies are reportedly encouraged to consider investing in Polambato Port as a potential port for cargo shipments to and from Cebu, providing them with possible direct routes and faster time travel and shorter distance.
The city government earlier asked the assistance of the Department of Trade and Industry to help promote the Philippine Economic Zone Authority-registered port for cargo shipments.
The Polambato Port is also projected to be a potential port for more tourists and visitors going to various tourist destinations and diving spots such as the Malapascua Island. (FREEMAN)
