Aid for families of slain Cebuano SAF cops
CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu provincial government will give P50,000 each to the families of the two Special Action Force members from Cebu who perished in the Mamasapano massacre.
Capitol is also eyeing at providing education assistance for the son of PO1 Romeo Cempron of Consolacion.
PO1 Windel Candano of Dumanjug got married only in 2013 but did not have a child.
Consolacion Mayor Teresita Alegado said the town will also give financial aid to Cempron’s family. So will Dumanjug town.
“Muhatag sad ta og financial assistance. I-arrange pa nako (ang amount)… lisud man pud kung dili ko makigstorya sa akong budget officer. Definitely, there will be,” Alegado said.
Alegado has requested that Cempron’s remains be open to the public at the barangay hall.
“So that everybody can give a eulogy coming from the barangay, from the PNP, the province, the municipality, and from the family. So at least ba, sa iyahang panerbisyo, ang wala mahibalo, at least mahayagan,” the mayor said.
Davide and the mayors were present at the Mactan Cebu International Airport yesterday morning when the remains of the two policemen arrived in Cebu from Manila.
At least 120 policemen participated in the arrival honors accorded to Candano and Cempron.
Davide also reiterated his opposition to an all-out war against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, which was echoed by Dumanjug Mayor Nelson Garcia.
“Although this is a very unfortunate and tragic incident, I personally am outraged of what happened but let us not give up hope in our quest for peace in Mindanao,” Davide said.
Garcia, for his part, said one should not be overruled by emotions when coming up with decisions that will have potential for catastrophic ramifications.
“Mao pirmi mosud sa atong huna-huna labi na sa mga pamilya nga nabiyaan nga gusto magpanimawos. Apan gitudloan ta sa Bibiliya na maghigugmaay,” Garcia said.
He appealed for the government to seek justice for the 44 slain SAF members.
“Sa mga nagbanhig sa mga pulis, angayan masilotan pud na sila aron makahatag og hustisya sa mga pamilyang nagbangotan,” he said. —JMO (FREEMAN)
