CEBU, Philippines - A newly-promoted policeman is now in critical condition after he went over a cliff after his bicycle's brakes malfunctioned while he was heading to work around 6:40 a.m. yesterday.
Senior Police Officer 3 Rene Labiaga, Punta Police Station beat inspector, is now confined at the Miller Hospital due to multiple head injuries.
Police Office 2 Erwin Usares, desk officer of the Punta Police Station said that Labiaga usually comes to work in the morning on his bicycle. But yesterday while he was pedaling downhill he lost his brakes and went over a cliff, landing on the ground an estimated 20 meters below.
"Si Labiaga kada-buntag mag-bike padulong mo-duty, ganiha naputlan og brake sa dulhogon, tapos nadiritso sa pangpang mga 20 meters deep," he said.
Labiaga's wife said her husband needs a blood transfusion.
Usares said that Labiaga was just promoted last December and is a good man.
"Maayong tawo ni nga polis, bag-o lang na-promote ning tawhana last December," he added. – (FREEMAN)
