Probe destroys firecrackers worth P37T

CEBU, Philippines - Some P37,000 worth of confiscated pyrotechnics and firecrackers were destroyed yesterday by Cebu City's demolition team.

Raquel Arce, head of the Prevention, Restoration, Order, Beautification, Enhancement, said the firecrackers and pyrotechnics, which were illegally sold at the Carbon Market, were confiscated on December 31, 2014.

Arce said that the sale of firecrackers and pyrotechnics was only allowed at the South Road Properties and inside the malls, respectively.

Among the items destroyed yesterday by pouring water were judas belt, fountain, kwitis, piccolo, and sparklers. Arce said the amount confiscated last year was lower compared to P40,000 in 2013.

Arce said the reason why they confiscated fewer pyrotechnics last year was that there are only few vendors selling along the sidewalks.

"Unya ang sa establishments sad, ang atong na confiscate kay ang plain view. Ang ilang pagpaninda kay discreet ra, unya dili man mi makasulod og bodega," she said.

"Naa ra sa bodega ang ilang gihimo, nakita nato nga strategy nila kay naa silay murag picture unya mupili didto ang mupalit, puston na didto, so inig gawas ana kay selyado na. Naka confiscate ta gamay gamay lang, ang kato rang naa sa plain view," she added.— (FREEMAN)
