CEBU, Philippines - The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board-7 is requesting local government units to help it make sure that the proper fare rate is implemented by measuring the kilometer distance of jeepney routes in their respective jurisdiction.
“Ang sakto man gyud unta ani nga every time naay i-implement nga re-routing, ang LGU, they should coordinate with the LTFRB aron e-submit nila ang corresponding kilometer distance and we will be the one to compute kung pila ang plete,” said LTFRB-7 regional director Reynaldo Elnar.
Romeo Armamento, vice president of the National Confederation of Transport workers Union-Central Visayas, said that because of the lack of coordination between the LGUs and LTFRB on rerouting, some jeepney drivers implement the fare rate on their own.
“Ang nahitabo man gud ani nga tungod sa mga re-routing nga gipatuman sa mga LGUs sama sa Mandaue City ug Cebu City, ni taas ang ruta unya walay sukod kung pila na ba ka kilometro ang nadungag. Ang gihimo sa mga drivers, sila na lang ang mag buot-buot kung pila ang plete,” said Armamento.
“Di na pwede nga ang mga drivers ang magbuot kung pila ang plete. It should be the LTFRB who will set the fare rate based on the kilometer distance travelled,” Elnar added. NCTU-CV has over 2,000 member-drivers in Cebu alone.
Ryan Benjamin Yu, general manager and president of Cebu Integrated Transport Cooperative, said that they have no problem as to the implementation of the reduced jeepney fare.
“So far, I have not received any complaints on this matter,” said Yu.
CITRASCO is considered as the biggest transport cooperative in Central Visayas. It has 1,000 jeepney units and 200 taxi units operating in Cebu alone.
LTFRB-7 has implemented the reduced jeepney minimum fare by .50 from P7.50 to P7.00 since Tuesday in Central Visayas. — (FREEMAN)
