CEBU, Philippines - The League of Municipalities in the Philippines has reminded local government units of the deadline for the submission of entries for the 4th Community-Based Monitoring System-Philippines Special Awards.
LMP-Cebu chapter president and Tuburan Mayor Democrito Diamante Jr. said the deadline is on January 15, 2015.
In line with the 11th Community-Based Monitoring System-Philippines National Conference to be held on February 2-4, 2015 at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, the CBMS International Network Coordinating Team will be giving recognition to its partner LGUs in the Philippines in terms of Best CBMS Advocacy Video, Best CBMS Photo and Best LGU Community Development (Intervention) Program designed and implemented based on CBMS results.
Advocacy video should show the value or importance of CBMS for the development of the locality (or the members of the community) and its actual uses in the community.
Photo entries should capture actual conduct of any of the core activities of the CBMS process in the locality: CBMS local training workshops, field data collection and data processing, poverty mapping, community data validation workshops, and presentation or dissemination of CBMS findings.
LGU Community Development Intervention/Program based on CBMS results should have been designed and implemented by the LGU in response to (or based on) the results of CBMS census data in their locality and must be able to show evidence on the impact of the program in the locality using their CBMS data.
LGUs whose entries are shortlisted will be notified through e-mail or by phone by the Conference Secretariat and will be provided with a space at the CBMS Exhibit Area for the duration of the 11th CBMS-Philippines National Conference.
The LGU partners may submit entries for the abovementioned categories. Winning entries for all categories will be announced on February 4, 2015 during the closing ceremony of the 11Th CBMS-Philippines National Conference.
The annual CBMS national conference aims to gather partners and stakeholders in the country and discuss current developments and best practices on the implementation and use of the community-based monitoring system.
It features presentations and discussions on the uses of CBMS for grassroots participatory budgeting process (GPBP), localizing the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), disaster risk reduction management (DRRM) and climate change adaptation (CCA), local poverty reduction action planning, local programming and project prioritization, impact-monitoring, and improving local governance.
Department of Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas, in a memorandum, has encouraged all provincial governors, city and municipal mayors; DILG regional, provincial/city directors, Local Government Operations Officers and other concerned to participate in the event. (FREEMAN)
