CEBU, Philippines - Starting today, all Cebu City Traffic Operations Management traffic enforcers will not have rest days until January 19.
CITOM operations chief Jonathan Tumulak said they want to ensure that the traffic situation in the city’s busy intersections will be addressed during the Sinulog festivities.
Tumulak said CITOM has conducted several meetings with Mayor Michael Rama wherein they have discussed the “no-day-off policy” among the enforcers du-ring the celebration.
There were no objections from the traffic enforcers, said Tumulak.
“Naanad na man pud ta ani nga practice and nakasabot gyod atong mga enforcers nga kinahanglan gyud og enforcers atong kadalanan karong panahona,” he said.
Also, Tumulak said CITOM has to work overtime as the activities for the Sinulog festival will be officially launched today.
He added that every duty rendered will be considered a sort of thanksgiving to the Holy Child.
“Mas mograbi atong traffic kay daghan na ang activities and nagkadaghan na ang mga tao ug mga sakyanan. Lisod man pud kun mag-day off mi unya grabi kaayo ang traffic, mas maayo na lang nga i-offer lang pud namo among trabaho sa Fiesta Señor,” he said.
To boot, the road test recently conducted demands more traffic enforcers, the CITOM official said, referring to CITOM’s experiment on traffic lights during peak hours or if needed.
“Flashing traffic light experiment” needs manual enforcement of a traffic enforcer in a certain area, he said.
With the series of activities for the Sinulog, Tumulak is appealing for the public to cooperate. (FREEMAN)
