The Freeman @ 95

CEBU, Philippines – The year 2014 was particularly special for The FREEMAN newspaper as it marked a significant part of its journey as the longest running newspaper in Cebu.

In July 18, 2014, The FREEMAN celebrated 95 bountiful years as the fair and fearless newspaper and along with the celebration were a number of surprises in store for the readers and partners of the paper who have made close to 10 decades of presence more momentous.

One clearly visible change was The FREEMAN’s new layout which was launched on the day of the paper’s 95th anniversary.

Jose “Dodong” R. Gullas, The FREEMAN’s Chairman, wanted the new layout to deliver something new to the readers. The change should be a blend of the old and the new, Gullas requested.

After months of going over various layout proposals, the new look was decided and there was no better time to introduce it but on the paper’s 95th anniversary.

Along with the busy planning for the new look, the people behind The FREEMAN also introduced a new campaign to prove the paper’s immense love for Cebu.

The #CEBUkeepsmegoing campaign was launched in May with the hashtag being posted in social media sites and through stickers and posters around Cebu. With the campaign, The FREEMAN hoped to get the idea on how Cebu has helped people in their respective endeavors and, true to the purpose of the campaign, The FREEMAN got the full picture of how everyone loves Cebu.

When the campaign was initially introduced, The FREEMAN’s staff kept it a secret that it was the paper behind the catchy hashtag.

But in July, The FREEMAN was more than happy to make the big reveal and today, close to six months since it was made public, The FREEMAN is ecstatic that hundreds still use the #CEBUkeepsmegoing in social media sites because really, the campaign is not just about the paper but for everyone’s love for Cebu.

Apart from which, The FREEMAN also took advantage of the big celebration to give back to the people and groups who had a big part in the years of success —the advertisers.

On July 18, The FREEMAN’s advertisers and top news sources joined an entertaining Roaring 20s-themed party at the Radisson Blu hotel.

The next day, it was the employees’ time to relax as all gathered in a fun-filled party at The FREEMAN building.

This 2015, the paper welcomes the new year with more surprises in store for the readers, at the same time fulfilling the promise that The FREEMAN will be here for more years to come since there is no other paper that knows Cebu better than The FREEMAN. — (FREEMAN)
