CEBU, Philippines - Two men died while another one was seriously injured after they were shot in separate incidents in Cebu Saturday.
In Barangay Tubod-Bitoon, Dumanjug, Danilo Layan, 26, was found near his house already dead with a gunshot wound on his chest at past 6 a.m.
Police Officer 3 Dionesio Tagupa of Dumanjug Police said they found a corn ear each from the two pockets of the victim’s short pants.
Tagupa surmised that the owner of the corns may have seen Layan and shot him in anger.
Another theory the police are considering is that the assailant could be a neighbor of the victim.
Weeks ago, Layan was reportedly tied up by his neighbors because he was so drank he hit anyone who went near him.
Investigation is ongoing to identify the assailant and determine the real motive behind the incident.
Meanwhile, in Barangay Mantalongon, Dalaguete, alleged ex-convict Alejandro Cartilla, 66, was shot and killed by his neighbor Rosendo Remedio, 32, at past 7 p.m.
Remedio, formerly barangay tanod and now security guard of a construction company, reportedly met Cartilla on the road and shot him several times.
The victim fell on the ground while the suspect fled on foot before policemen arrived.
An empty shell of an undetermined caliber of firearm was recovered from the crime scene.
The police are now hunting down the suspect.
In another incident, Glen Bazar, 38, was seriously injured after he was shot multiple times by one of three persons who were allegedly tailing him.
Bazar, a resident of the place, is now fighting for his life at a hospital in Cebu City after sustaining gunshot wounds on his groin, chest, arm, shoulder back, and forehead.
PO3 Junyl Ater of Talisay City Police said the victim was walking in the area at around 1 p.m. when one of the three persons who were walking behind him shot him many times.
Ater said the assailant emptied a magazine of a cal. 45 pistol in shooting Bazar. Three empty shells of the same caliber of firearm were found at the crime scene.
The police are now conducting an investigation to determine the identity of the gunman and his companions as well as their motive in shooting the victim. (FREEMAN)
