CEBU, Philippines - A man who was initially caught for having a fistfight with another man was arrested and detained after he was seized with counterfeit money Saturday in Barangay Kamagayan, Cebu City.

Suspect Henegrey Pangalan, 26, reportedly yielded fake bills amounting to P3,400.

According to Police Officer 1 Milrose Villanos of Parian Police Station, Pangalan, a resident of Barangay Tinago, was caught punching a man at D. Jakosalem Street in Kamagayan at around 11 a.m. on Saturday, prompting barangay tanods Ricky Mansing, Noe Vargas, and Rae Ong to apprehend him.

The tanods frisked the suspect and found the fake bills in his possession.

The suspect was turned over to the police station.

Villanos said the suspect, who refused to tell where he got the counterfeit bills, will be subjected to further investigation.

A charge for violation of Article 168 of the Revised Penal Code for possession of counterfeit money will be filed against the suspect.

Earlier, the Police Regional Office-7 has warned the public on the proliferation of fake money especially during this holiday season.  (FREEMAN)
