More aid sent to areas affected by typhoon Ruby

CEBU, Philippines - While the packing of relief goods was terminated days ago, the Department of Social Welfare and Development-7 continues to send relief assistance from Cebu to areas in Samar affected by typhoon Ruby.

This was according to DSWD-7 regional spokesperson Leah Quintana. Cebu is the designated relief hub for Visayas regions.

“Yesterday, nakapadala pa (family food packs) to Samar,” Quintana said.

December 15 was the last day for packing of relief goods intended for typhoon Ruby victims in both northern Cebu and Eastern Visayas.

A separate repacking of goods though is done so that the DSWD will be prepared for any occurrence.

“Packing of goods now is for our standby food packs. Each region must have 30,000 packs at any given time,” Quintana explained.

As of December 15, over 35,000 food packs were sent to northern Cebu plus almost 46,000 for Eastern Visayas via Catarman, Borongan, Tacloban, Palompon, among other local government units. —  Jessa J. Agua/ATO (FREEMAN)
