CEBU, Philippines - A man died after a wayward dump truck collided with his motorbike in Barangay Lanas, City of Naga yesterday afternoon.
Joseph Chavez, 29, of Barangay West Poblacion, was dragged seven meters by the dump truck driven by Randy Paran, 26, of Barangay Cantabaco, Toledo City.
Police Officer 3 James Cañete, traffic investigator, said the victim was heading towards Toledo City when he met the dump truck from the opposite direction.
The dump truck loaded with sand reportedly had a mechanical failure while negotiating the road at Sitio Visayan, Barangay Lanas. Paran lost control of the vehicle and collided with Chavez who was coming from the opposite direction.
"Gikan sa Toledo ang dump truck nag-haul og balas going to Naga, puno og balas ang truck. Pag-abot sa Lanas natang-tang ang rod sa manobela," Cañete said. Because of the impact, the victim had one of his legs severed.
The victim was brought to the district hospital in the City of Naga but he was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
Paran, on the other hand, was brought to the police station where he is temporarily detained awaiting the filing of criminal complaint against him.
Meanwhile, an American national was injured after his motorcycle also collided with a bus in Barangay Arbor, Boljoon town Sunday morning.
Jessie Akers suffered minor injuries in his legs and was immediately brought to Chong Hua Hospital for medical treatment.
Bus driver Domingo Malang, 50, of Sunrays Bus Lines, was arrested and is now under police custody.
Police Officer 2 Rogelio Sinagon, traffic investigator, said the bus driver claimed that he did not notice the victim.
"Wala kabantay ang driver sa bus nga naa diay motor pagdayun niya'g liko. Ang motor pud wa kapadaplin dayon," Sinagon said. (FREEMAN)
