‘Take responsibility for hubby’s death’

The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - The wife of the man who died after being hit by a Capitol-issued vehicle has sought “legal agreement” with former Capitol security chief Loy Anthony Madrigal.

Marites Mirambel wanted Madrigal to answer his liability on the accident that led to the death of her husband, Felix, the breadwinner of the family.

She said that even though the province had shouldered all the hospital expenses, as well as the burial of her husband, Madrigal should also take the responsibility of extending financial assistance from his own pocket.

“Among tumong di man ingon makiggubot. Kung gusto siya’g kalinaw, unya ako pud gusto na pud ko’g kalinaw, agreement among gusto. Kay di man mi iro nga ingon ato lang nga kung madasmagan, lain mohipos,” she said.

If Madrigal would refuse to heed the call, Marites said she would elevate the matter to the court.

Last September, a Capitol-owned vehicle issued to Madrigal hit couple Felix and Marites Mirambel, who were onboard a motorcycle in Barangay Don Pedro, Bogo City.

Madrigal was reportedly onboard the vehicle. He has then already tendered resignation following the issues hurled against him regarding his alleged affair with his secretary.

The FREEMAN contacted Madrigal for comments but he could not be reached.

Yesterday, Marites, together with her eldest daughter Leslie, went to the office of Governor Hilario Davide III to express thanks for the assistance extended by the province, especially on the operation of her leg which was broken following the incident.

She said she also wanted to be assured that the province will be true to its promise to give opportunity for Leslie to work at the Capitol.

Marites said the governor asked her daughter to submit the requirements. Apart from this, she also received P3,000 cash from Davide which was taken from the governor’s own pocket.

The death of Marites’ husband has prompted their second child not to pursue college.

Marites said she could not yet support her family since she is still recovering from the operation. Her husband’s relatives are the ones who support them in their daily needs, she added. — Michael Vencynth H. Braga/NSA (FREEMAN)
