CEBU, Philippines - A man who tried to snatch a college student’s bag ended up getting arrested by a policeman while he was being chased by the victim Tuesday in Barangay Sto. Niño, Cebu City.
Gerard Della Casa, 32, of Barangay Carreta was arrested even before he could escape with the backpack of Cheska Diaz, 19, a nursing student of Southwestern University.
Police Officer 1 Policarpio Barliso of Waterfront Police Station, based on the investigation, said that the victim and the suspect were riding on the same passenger jeepney with route number 06C.
When the vehicle reached the corner of Osmeña Boulevard and Balintawak Street, Della Casa suddenly grabbed the backpack of Diaz.
Diaz tried to fight and pull her bag back but the suspect was stronger and managed to take it.
However, the student chased the suspect until they reached Barangay Sto. Niño and asked the bystanders to help him.
The bystanders caught the suspect and mauled him.
Police Officer 2 Nicasio Undalok Jr., who was patrolling the area, saw the commotion and arrested the suspect.
Undalok frisked the suspect and recovered an unlicensed cal. 38 revolver from him.
The suspect will be facing charges for robbery and violation of the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunitions. – (FREEMAN)
