CEBU, Philippines - The Cebu City government is aiming to bid a backlog of drainage projects worth P200 million before the year ends.

Department of Engineering and Public Works head Jose Marie Poblete said the amount is part of the P600 million backlog projects funded from 2011 to 2014.

“This month, naka-schedule nata nga ipa-bid ang remaining P200 million nga mga drainage projects under sa lump sum appropriation,” Poblete said during a forum with members of the local press yesterday.

Poblete said P400 million has been bid out they are aiming to complete all documents of the backlog project this year.

“Focus nato karon is to have all the projects contracted out kay we don’t want next year na mag-entertain with the backlogs. We are asking more funds, pero naa pa tay nabilin projects. So, among focus karon is to let these out and face new projects in 2015,” he said.

He also disclosed that about P1 billion worth of projects are still being undertaken in the city.

“And aside from that (P1 billion), naay important projects nga wala na-funded but initiated by the private sectors,” he said.

Seventy five projects worth P588.5 million are ongoing while 135 others worth P344 million are yet to begin this month.

Poblete said these projects include roads, drainage systems, flood control structures, among others. He asked barangay officials to take part in monitoring the projects in their respective barangays.

“Mangayo sad mig tabang sa mga barangay officials: Please also tan-awa ang mga contractors kon how far are they complete the projects,” he said, adding, that his office does not have enough personnel to monitor all projects.

“Lipay kaayo ko kay naay support ni mayor (Michael Rama) kay dili lang kwarta atong kailangan ang mga tao pud,” he said.  (FREEMAN)
