CEBU, Philippines - Cebu Provincial Board Julian “Teban” Daan will serve as acting governor in the absence of Governor Hilario Davide III and Vice Governor Agnes Magpale.
Davide and Magpale are out of the country for a week. Davide is in Yokohama, Japan to attend the 3rd Asia Smart City Conference from October 29 to 30 while Magpale is on a seven-day vacation leave with her family, also in Japan.
In an interview with the media yesterday, Daan confirmed that he received the memorandum appointing him as acting governor effective today.
Yesterday, Daan assumed as vice governor after also receiving a memorandum from Magpale designating him to take her place from October 24 until October 30.
“As the highest ranking Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member and in view of Vice-Governor Agnes Magpale’s official leave of absence, you shall be acting governor for the duration of my official travel to Japan from October 28, 2014 to November 1, 2014,” Davide’s letter reads.
Davide is attending the conference with five other mayors who were also invited by the Japan International Cooperation Agency. They are Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes, Danao City Mayor Ramon “Nito” Durano III, Compostela Mayor Joel Quiño, Naga City Mayor Valdemar Chiong and San Fernando Mayor Antonio Canoy.
Daan said that he will meet the department heads this week to discuss preparations for November 1 and 2. He will also issue an order stipulating that Capitol employees will work only in the morning on Friday, October 31, so they can leave for their respective towns or cities in the afternoon in time for All Souls’ Day and All Saints’ Day.
