Chopped body found in Naga

Bryner L. Diaz - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - A person’s dead body that was chopped to pieces was found stashed in a travel bag in Barangay Lanas, Naga City past 1 p.m. yesterday.

PO3 Ian Quitayen said the body was already in an advanced stage of decomposition, thus, was unrecognizable and it was difficult to determine whether it was that of a male or female.

He said it was street cleaner Francisca Canoot who was walking in the area who first noticed a foul smell, prompting her to report the matter to Barangay Captain Rey Arnoza via a text message.

Arnoza, in turn, directed a certain Alexander Magopan to check the report and to determine where the smell was coming from. Magopan scoured the area and found the black travel bag that contained the body parts.

The barangay captain then reported the matter to the Naga City Police Station.

Personnel of the Special Weapons and Tactics, Crime Scene Investigation, and the Naga Police led by PO2 Gilmer Noval responded to the area.

At around 5:30 p.m. the body was turned over to the St. Francis Funeral Homes for autopsy.

Investigation is ongoing to identify the victim and to determine the cause of the killing.  (FREEMAN)
