CEBU, Philippines – Organizers of the 12th National Cooperative Summit on October 16 to 18 are forced to refund some payments of registrants after they exceeded the target number of participants for the event.
Doris Cañares, the chairperson of the Philippine Cooperative Center , announced that about 4,260 officials and members of various cooperatives all over the country are set to come to Cebu to attend the three-day event. The organizers were targeting at least 3,500 participants.
This prompted PCC to announce that the registration for the summit starting October 2 has officially been closed since they already reached the limited seating capacity of the hotel.
She said they have to refund the payments of about 139 coop officials who registered and paid online to avoid venue congestion.
The summit highlights October as Cooperative Month with the theme, “Kooperatiba: Maaasahan Sa Pagsulong ng Kabuhayan at Kapayapaan ng Bayan.”
The highlight during the opening on Thursday afternoon at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino is the Gawad Parangal for Most Outstanding Coops; Coop Development Officers; and Coop Leaders in the country. —/ATO (FREEMAN)
