Napolcom to monitor case of cop closely
CEBU, Philippines - Since the Philippine National Police has opened an internal investigation, the National Police Commission – 7 can no longer intervene in the case of P/Insp. Rogelio Amoroso, the cop who allegedly shot a waiter to death last Friday.
Homer Cabaral, Napolcom’s regional director, said, however, that the agency will monitor the case closely to ensure that the investigation will run smoothly.
“Maka-call lang ta sa ilang attention kung dunay lapses sa ilang investigation,” Cabaral told dyRC in its Balita Numero Uno program.
He said Amoroso has no pending administrative case with Napolcom.
Cabaral said the PNP has an internal investigatory power and has the right to investigate its own men.
“Ang PNP naay internal investigatory power, naa man sila’y katungod sa pag-imbistigar,” he said, adding, he is confident that PNP will be objective in its investigation.
Cabaral said that even if the criminal aspect of the case will be dropped in the event of a settlement, Amoroso may still face an administrative charge for grave misconduct.
As regards the homicide and frustrated homicide charges the Lapu-Lapu City police have prepared against Amoroso, Cabaral said it is now up to the prosecutor’s office to decide on whether or not the charges should be elevated to court.
Amoroso allegedly shot a waiter in the neck and the bullet pierced through his head that might have caused his instant death. A bouncer was also injured in the incident. (FREEMAN)
