Sellon to retire this month

Mylen P. Manto - The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines - Cebu City Prosecutor Nicholas Sellon is set to retire this month, three years ahead of the compulsory retirement age of 65.

Sellon said he applied for optional retirement at the age of 60 but the approval was delayed for two years. Sellon, who has been serving as city prosecutor for nine years, earned his degree in Bachelor of Laws from the University of San Carlos in 1976. He took and passed the Bar in the same year.

For a while he had his private practice until he got hired as assistant city attorney at the Cebu City Attorney’s Office in 1977. He transferred to the Department of Justice in 1983 as assistant city prosecutor, a position he held until his promotion as chief city prosecutor on July 28, 2005.

Sellon said he decided to retire early to give others a chance to be promoted. According to him, three of his assistants applied for his position. He, however, said it would be up to the DOJ to choose who among the applicants will replace him.

Sellon said he has no definite plan yet on what to do after his retirement.— (FREEMAN)
