CEBU, Philippines - A Japanese national who was allegedly depressed due to financial reasons reportedly committed suicide by hanging himself inside a house in Barangay Mambaling, Cebu City yesterday.
Kiyoshi Nakahigashi, 55, of Nishihama, Wakayama City, Japan reportedly used a belt in hanging himself.
His body was discovered by her live-in partner Tiffany Ann Villamor in their living room at 7 a.m.
Villamor called for assistance and their neighbors came to rescue Nakahigashi.
They untied the victim and placed him on the floor but the responding emergency response team of the barangay assessed him as already dead.
Senior Police Officer 4 Alex Dacua, senior homicide section investigator, said he did not initially find any signs of foul play on the foreigner’s death.
According to Villamor, Dacua said, she and her live-in partner were having financial difficulties.
Villamor was further quoted in a report over radio dyRF saying that the victim left a suicide note saying he was sorry that he cannot give her money and that he loves her.
She said Nakahigashi had been receiving financial help from Japan but it stopped in February.
The Japanese national then moved into her house in sitio Lumboy, she added.
The victim, Villamor further said, lost some of his documents to robbers making it more difficult for him to live here in the country. — (FREEMAN)
