CEBU, Philippines - One person died while two others were severely injured after a crane truck hit four motorcycles in Consolacion town past 7 p.m. yesterday.
Senior Police Officer 2 Aldin Abayabay, desk officer, said in an interview that the truck was heading north when the brakes malfunctioned at the boundaries of barangays Poblacion Occidental and Poblacion Oriental last night.
Rescuers took several minutes to extricate the truck’s driver Abelardo Garote, who was pinned behind the wheel after the accident. His truck helper was not so lucky after he was killed after making a panicked leap from the truck.
Abayabay added that the truck mowed into four motorcycles, throwing two of them aside while the other two got stuck under truck, bringing it to a grinding halt in the middle of the road.
Two motorcycle dri-vers were seriously injured.
Those injured were brought to the hospital for treatment. As of press time investigators were still trying to identify the motorcycle drivers and the fatality. — Bryner L. Diaz/BRP (FREEMAN)
