CEBU, Philippines - In a bid to bring college closer to residents in northern Cebu, Cebu Technological University will be opening two community colleges in Bantayan and Tabogon towns, respectively.
Fourth District Rep. Benhur Salimbangon, the CTU Board of Regents has already approved the establishment of the campus in Bantayan and is on the process of approving the campus in Tabogon.
A 10-classroom building will be constructed in Bantayan town but only four will be built initially, which can be used by next semester.
Salimbangon said the college in Bantayan town will also cater to residents of Sta. Fe and Madridejos towns, which are also located in Bantayan Island.
The building in Bantayan town will be constructed using P5 million from the Commission on Higher Education that Salimbangon helped facilitate and a P5 million counterpart from the municipal government.
“This is to ensure that high school graduates in these areas and neighboring towns can go to college. For these students to have a better future and a much better life,” Salimbangon said.
He said many high school graduates in these areas choose not to pursue a college education for lack of financial means study and live in the city.
“Mao nga ang atong gibuhat nga mabutangan gyud og community college especially kaning mga layo na nga lugar, para sad mapadayon nila ang ilang college education,” Salimbangon said further.
School officials are now finalizing the courses to be offered at the Bantayan campus. (FREEMAN)
