School budget stopped; main campus to take over

CEBU, Philippines - The operation of Cebu Normal University-Medellin Campus will soon be taken over by its main campus.

This was the assurance made by CNU President Marcelo Lopez after Cebu fourth district Representative Benhur Salimbangon halted the inclusion of the P10-million budget for the school.

Salimbangon said that during the preliminary budget hearing yesterday with the Commission on Higher Education, he asked that the budget be excluded while CNU has not yet assumed the operation of CNU-Medellin Campus.

“Four years na, until now ang nagsweldo sa mga maestra nganha ang local government lang gihapon. That is not the expertise of the LGU,” the dismayed Salimbangon said.

The local government of Medellin turned over the lot and the building to CNU-Medellin four years ago.

The school had only 400 students when it started and now already has over a thousand.

“Kong ang CNU na g’yud ang mo-take-over sa operation ana, they can hire better teachers and improve the quality of the students,” Salimbangon said.

According to Salimbangon, he has to get a board resolution first from CNU’s board of regents that the latter will take over its campus in Medellin by next semester, before he will move for the inclusion of the P10-million budget.

“I need to have an assurance, like they should have a resolution that they will be taking over the operation,” the congressman said. (FREEMAN)
